Most men in midlife are managing decline.
The ones I work with are charting a different path.
The Man behind FitSpan
In my late-40s, I'm getting more capable every year. Not less.
As a performance physiologist with a PhD and 20+ years in the field, I've worked at the intersection of science and human potential, from NIH research to coaching high-level executives, endurance athletes and everyday men who want to feel better, move stronger and show up fully.
My approach blends modern testing and wearables with old-school accountability, presence and heart. We track only what matters, train hard and recover intelligently.
Based in Denver, Colorado - I believe health should amplify your life, not restrict it.
Real fitness isn't about how fast you can go or how much you can lift-it's about how long you can stay in the game.
I built FitSpan to help men dominate midlife...not just survive.

I'm not asking you to live longer. I'm asking you to live bigger.
Michael Donovan, PhD
Performance Physiologist - Founder - Father

I don't just coach this life. I'm living it.
I'm modeling a different path- for my son, my clients and every man who knows he's meant for more.
Training for a lifetime, not a moment.
5-Year Goal: Podium a 70.3 triathlon and prove what intentional, intelligent training makes possible in midlife.
30-Year Goal: Line up at a mountain bike stage race with my son Bennett when I'm 75 - fit, capable and fully alive.
Between now and then, we'll complete father-son adventures. Trips that require strength. Fitness that enables play. A body that says "yes" instead of "not anymore."
What FitSpan Means to Me
FitSpan isn't about chasing youth. It's about extending capability.
The ability to train hard, recover well, and still have enough in the tank decades from now to carry a pack, ride a trail, or say "let's go" when it matters most.
My training decisions are guided by one question: Does this help me stay in the game longer- physically, mentally, and relationally?
Why I Coach This Way
Performance without longevity is fragile. Longevity without purpose is hollow.
I coach men who want to be fit for their life, work, family and future adventures - not just to look good or train for an event.
FitSpan aligns:
* Ambitious performance goals with intelligent recovery
* Real-world strength and endurance
* Meaningful relationships
* A long horizon worth training for
